ClubThe Return Of Oz

September 2, 20200

We are pleased to announce the return of Oz Phillips as Arena Announcer, bringing a welcome boost to our whole match night presentation.

Oz was our announcer for several years covering the most successful period in the club’s history, announcing every home game over a stretch that saw the Hawks win three Playoff Trophies and two League Championships as well as covering the 25th Anniversary Legends game. Oz was also part of the team that started broadcasting Hawks away games, through HawksF5 Radio, then through the league-wide NIHL Radio initiative, cementing his place as “Voice of the Hawks”. Having decided to step down as announcer at the end of the double-winning 2015/16 season to concentrate on NIHL Radio, Oz ultimately walked away from the sport entirely to focus on his family but now feels the time is right to return:

“I’ve known Graham and Carl for a number of years and I can’t think of a better pairing to help put the Hawks back to where they belong, and I want to be a part of that. This club has had some electric and memorable nights at The Nest over the years and I really want to help bring back those times. I have missed being behind the microphone and I’m excited to get back in the hot seat once again.”

A fan and spectator since the mid-90s, Oz has also spent a full season writing and producing the match night program, was a founding member of the HawksF5 Supporters Club and fronted video interviews, podcasts, and other media, and was Chairman of the Blackburn Hawks Supporters Club for a time.

Hawks’ General Manager Dean Worrall commented:

“I’m absolutely delighted that Oz Phillips will be joining the new team. Any former fans will be familiar with the match night experience that Oz delivers. His knowledge of the game is 2nd to none and I look forward to hearing his engaging tone and excellent match night music. The team just gets stronger and stronger.”
