Back in June when the call came to meet with Planet Ice and the subsequent meetings that followed, both parties agreed that a place in Division Two would be the best point to start the new business and the foundations were then laid to bring this to fruition.
It’s fair to say that with the groundwork done by the Club so far, and the support of our loyal fanbase and sponsors the project has gone from strength to strength and at times it’s been quite overwhelming.
After lengthy consultation between the Owners, the Team Management and the Coaches we have taken the collective decision to accept the offer from the EIHA to remain a NIHL Division One (Moralee) team for the Season 2021.
Once Ryan, Ollie and Lee came onboard we felt that the product we are looking to put together has to be placed in the right market for it to be viable and importantly an attractive package to our loyal supporters and prospective players.
We’re convinced it’s the right decision not only for us but the league as a whole.
We will continue to keep dialogue open with the EIHA over the coming days, weeks and months and will of course pass this onto everyone via our website and social media platforms as soon as we have it.
Ryan Finnerty, Hawks’ new Head of Coaching added:
”When it came to working with Carl & Graham on the Hawks project, it was clear that they had ambitions for the club but wanted to create a sustainable model that would deliver a positive experience for all.
After a few weeks it was clear that the club and its recent success, along with the high standards set by the Ownership for myself and the coaching team, the Hawks belonged in NIHL Division 1 and I believe it’s the right decision and I’m glad that Carl & Graham were open minded enough to do what is right for the club.
This decision will not only provide good opposition for the team, but also align the affiliation goal of both the Manchester Storm and the Blackburn Hawks, of a successful pathway for up and coming players from all local clubs, particularly the Junior setups.
I look forward to working with my Co-Coaches and some of the players very soon.”
