During the interview which was released yesterday, we made it very clear that we are aware of the need to appreciate our loyal supporters and provide a way to ensure that your opinions are heard and that supporter feedback is welcomed and acted upon where appropriate. For this reason, we are delighted to announce the appointment of our Head of Team Support & Fan Liaison in the shape of our very own Craig Bevington.
Craig is no stranger to volunteering for the club having previously filled the role of Supporters Club Treasurer and also assisting with the audiovisual team.
We caught up with Craig today and he had this to say about his new role:
“When Carl phoned me to ask if I would take up the post I didn’t hesitate to say “Yes”. I had pretty much given up on Ice Hockey as I knew it as I felt we had been in a downward spiral for a few seasons. I’d “lost my mojo”, which is probably something familiar to many of you.
However, a new lease of life has been injected into the Hawks. Graham and Carl are passionate about Blackburn Hawks. They want to bring back what we used to have. In fact, their ambitions are to make it better than we used to have. It’s a challenge, but the players, the fans and the town deserve it.
The team that Graham and Carl are putting together share a common vision, that being to deliver a package which provides a good night out at a reasonable price watching quality Ice Hockey. As a paying guest, you deserve to be treated with respect and feel valued. As a club, we want to raise our game not only on the ice but off the ice too so that you leave the building feeling entertained, with smiles on your faces and be eager to come back for the next game. If you do then tell your friends if not then tell me and I’ll try my hardest to put it right.”
The recruitment drive doesn’t just stop there. As you’re all aware, another part of the match night process is the various competitions for the fans from Chuck a Puck for the kids, to Shirt Off The Back and our 50/50 draw. We found the perfect volunteer to pull this all together on a match night and coordinate the ticket sellers, our very own Debbi Yehia-Moustafa.
Debbi is a familiar face at both home, and away matches, and has been a much-valued match night volunteer for some time now, and we are delighted that she has accepted the role to help maximise the income for the club and to bring a familiar friendly welcome to all fans from the second they enter the arena.
Debbi spoke of her delight of being appointed:
“I feel really honoured that Carl and Graham have offered me this role and that they believe I’m right for it. This is my 4th season following the Hawks and 3rd season of volunteering – I love being part of the volunteer/fundraising team and I’m looking forward to building it & seeing where we can take it. I believe Graham & Carl will work with us all, to make the match night experience better and all work as a team to make sure the fans know what the 50/50, shirt off the back raffles & Chuck a puck are and hopefully raise lots of money for the club.
I’m so excited to be on board!”
Club Co-Owner Graham Lomax commented:
“Both Craig and Debbi have the exact DNA we are looking for in taking the business forward. They’re enthusiastic, they’re vibrant, they’re wanting to have an input and have ideas about how to make the product better – it’s music to our ears.
Both are well known and respected around the Arena. Craig was a huge part of the old F5 gang that were pioneers in bringing entertainment to the loyal of Hawks fans a few seasons back.
Debbi is a regular red-coated smiling face selling tickets on a Matchnight and with her infectious personality, she’s going to be great for us. She loves the job and the club, and when I spoke with her this morning she was overjoyed to be part of the organization she’s going to be huge for us.
Both Carl and I look forward to working with all the volunteers this season, they’re a massive part of what we’re all about, and we also look forward to meeting new faces at the up and coming volunteers evening at Blackburn Golf Club.”
More information is to be announced shortly regarding our upcoming Volunteer Evening – if you feel you have something you can offer, to be a part of the rebuild project, and help shape the club for the future, don’t miss it!
