Your Greenlite Group Blackburn Hawks are excited to announce the addition of young defencemen Cameron Wilkie, who flies into the nest this week from the Kirkcaldy Kestrels! Let’s give give him a huge Hawks welcome this Sunday against Sheffield Scimitars. 🤝🦅
Cameron commented on his opportunity south of the border:
‘Firstly, I want to thank Dom and the rest of the guys involved at Blackburn for giving me this opportunity. I would also like to thank The Kestrels and Wish for agreeing to a 2-way contract and helping me develop.
I am really looking forward to getting on the ice at training and learning the systems this week before my first game for Blackburn. This is the next step in my development, and I can’t wait to start. I will aim to make my mark in the league this upcoming season on and off the ice, and I look forward to getting to know the rest of the guys and hopefully playing my part in helping Blackburn succeed this season.’
Hawks Head Coach, Dom Osman on Cam Wilkie:
‘I’m absolutely delighted to sign Cam from the Kestrals on a two-way. I initially saw Cam ice when he travelled down last season to have a skate with us, as part of our connection with Kirkcaldy and I was immediately impressed.
Oliver Peers leaving a week before the season with no warning put us in a tough spot and we didn’t see it coming. The guys have done a tremendous job playing only five D back there, but we need to cover all bases.
This is a perfect time for Cam to step in and help us fill that spot; I am confident he will do a great job. He is highly committed to travelling down and investing in his development with us, as he is with Kirkcaldy. It’s a similar position we had with Brodie Kay last season, but he can stay down and train with us weekly, which is a bonus. I have watched many videos of him also playing against us. He’s an excellent skater and makes the quick plays we are looking for. He’s strong and is in great shape as well. He is really focused on being a hockey player, which is what we are looking for. We also have a Dman undergoing a minor procedure that will see him miss a few weeks in October, so we were hoping to find someone who could step up. We waited and didn’t just want to bring anyone on. We needed to ensure it was someone we had confidence in to make an immediate impact.
He wants it, and that’s important to have in a player. Welcome on board, Cam and thank you to Steve Wishart for the continued partnership to help put players in positions to help us grow our younger crop and allow the players to get the exposure needed to move up to the next level. Come down to support Cam and the rest of the boys this Sunday vs. Sheffield in Blackburn, coming off a big 5-0 win away v Widnes.’
