Hawks Finally Get Their Man

Full 9 Yards sponsored Blackburn Hawks are absolutely delighted to announce the signing of experienced Czech forward Robin Kovar.

Robin was due to come to the Hawks at the beginning of the season but family circumstances prevailed and he was not able to fulfil his commitment.

However, Hawks continued to track Robin and with the club in need of an import forward, negotiations began with Robin.

34 year old Robin started his career in Vsetin in the Czech Republic in 1990, icing for their u-18 and u-20 teams. An exciting prospect, he moved to Vancouver Giant in the WHL and was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in round 4 of the 2002 draft. He stayed in the WHL for 3 seasons, the last of which was with the Regina Pats.

Back home in 2004 he played for various teams in the Czech 1st and 2nd leagues before moving to Slovakia and then to Holland with Eindhoven.

Manchester Phoenix signed him in 2013 and he was a sensation in the EPIHL, scoring 117 goals and 183 assists in 3 and a half seasons. When Phoenix folded he played 15 games for the Swindon Wildcats scoring 14 goals and 11 assists. Last season was spend in Kazakhstan and he had 8 games in Budapest this season.

Robin commented on the signing,” I am very glad to have finally made it to Blackburn. I really wanted to be here at the beginning of the season but family circumstances had to take precedence and I needed to be close to them at a difficult and challenging time. As then, Blackburn suits me both in hockey and my personal life and I cannot wait to put on the Blackburn shirt”

Hawks are working hard to get Robin’s registration through in time for him to play this weekend.

Robin will wear jersey 30 for the Full 9 Yards Blackburn Hawks this season and his home and away jerseys are now available to ‘Own and Loan’ through our Own and Loan scheme priced at £80.00 each, please send your application to blackburnhawks@planet-ice.co.uk
